So I did it. I created an so called ‘album’ before the end of february. I’m not too proud about the result but getting it done is all this is about.

This is a full album I created from scratch within the 28 days of february 2010. This was done for the RPM Challenge 2010 which required to create 10 songs or 35 minutes of music during february. I have to say I have done it, but… I don’t think the stuff on this album is too great. So just take it as it is… do with it what you want.

I created a remix of the song ‘Worldless‘. I used the original synth and vocal tracks and recreated the guitars, bass and drums. Enjoy!

So, what’s going on? Well first of all I am still working on my ‘february challenge’. The RPM Challenge is a fun thing to do. I already got about 6 ’songs’. But don’t expect too much. They are rough and some kind of unfinished. And this will probably not change much since the 28 days are a short time to write, record and mix 10 songs. I am using about every trick to create music automatically: Arpeggiators, random note placement, granular stuff and long evolving sounds. This will probably get me there but not create the most genius music you ever heard. But the RPM Challenge ist just about one thing: Getting it done!

But this is not the only thing I am working at. I am doing 2 more remixes for some remix competitions and try to create some more ’soundtrack’ demos.

That’s about it. More to come soon.

I just added a new track. This time something I’d call a romantic cue. :)

Just listen to it in the ‘Music‘ section.

I will be a jury member of the swiss Metal Battle 2010. This is the 5th time this contest will be held in switzerland and also the 5th time with me as a member of the jury. The jury already decided which bands will be playing in the first round which will take place between the 5th and 7th of march. Those will be:

05.03.2010 Uster, Rock City
06.03.2010 Olten, Provisorium 8
06.03.2010 Worblaufen, Downstairs
07.03.2010 Solothurn, Kofmehl

Unfortunately I’ll not be present during this round since I will spend some time in berlin. But I will be at the semifinals and of course the final round. I believe those will be again some amazing events. So you better be there!
Make sure you visit the Sites at Facebook, Myspace and MX3.

Just added a new track in the ‘music‘ section. It is the first track of the demo reel 2010.

I just finished a remix for Celldwellers ‘So Long Sentiment’ Remix Contest. You can listen to it right here

My courses at Berkleemusic startet about 2 weeks ago. So I am pretty busy with learning. But I can’t stop creating music… :-)

Well, for starters there is a project with Stefan Schroff going on. He played the bass when we were playing a tour with draven and he is an amazing guitar player. You might check out his solo album ‘Evolution‘. We both wrote some songs for draven which we took with us when we left the band. We felt these songs are worth to be recorded and we do it! I finished the synths and orchestral stuff some weeks ago and he will eventually record some guitars before those raw version will be sent out to the guest singers. I’ll tell you more about it when we start recording with them.

Further I am working on a remix for a remix contest of Celldweller. This I do just for fun. We’ll see how this will turn out.

And – as if I had not enough to do – I found the RPM Challenge. To attend to this challenge you are asked to create a full album of at least 35 minutes or 10 songs within the 28 days of february. Sound quite fun and a nice challenge. This would not be about high quality production and I probably will not create the next big thing within those 28 days. It’s just about getting it done! For fun and glory. I am thinking about taking this challenge.

That’s it for now…

Yesterday I found an article about SoundsOnline and EastWest giving away a small version of its Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Library for free. There’s only one catch: You have to take a short survey.

I got my version and took a short look. Well, there are some useful instruments in the package but in the end it is nothing more than a promotional package. The instruments can be used in addition to some other libraries but don’t make too much sense alone. I think the best part of this give-away is the upgrade offer of EastWest. You can upgrade from the free version to the full versions with a discount.

I’m a proud owner of a squeezebox 3 and a squeezebox boom. However I am a fan of self learning systems and like to have a playlist which learns what I like to hear and what I will skip. This is why I always loved IMMS. Unfortunately there is no such mechanism in the squeezebox server. After a while trying to mimic the behavior using the Dynamic Playlist Plugin I found someone who tried to integrate IMMS into a plugin for the squeezebox server.

After installing it I had to fix some stuff to make it work for me (at least it learns. I am not too sure about creating new playlists). I tried to contact the writer of the original plugin but never got a message back. So, now I’m giving something back by releasing the version I use.

For more information about the plugin just read here.
